Back from a break

Daily result: £5.05

After an extra day away in Newmarket catching up with friends and attending the sales it was back to the trading. The few days away was a great break and change of scenery. I really like Newmarket having lived there on and off for some years and therefore I have a lot of friends there from different stages of my life and whenever the sales are on at Tattersalls there are friends over from other counties so it is a great chance to catch up, have some good food and generally enjoy ourselves - hopefully my trading will earn me enough to buy a house down there and go into partnership with some friends on some mares. It was good to see the old boss spending money like it is going out of fashion but when you are as rich as SheikhMo I guess it is like pocket change - hopefully he will pick some more mares up tonight!

Turning to the trading today, it was a very tough day and at one point I was ready to give up for the day. It didn't get off to a good start, losing on five races out of the first eight and only winning on one of them though thankfully it was a good win. I was still pretty tired and after having a lie in I was still not fully awake. As has happened in the past when I take a break I found it very hard to get back into the flow of it all. Added to this we had four workman in the house doing the finishing touches to the kitchen - thankfully that is all done now after going on for several weeks but at least it means peace and quiet now! At this stage I was ready to pack up shop but my little breakaway has taught me a good lesson. Some friends of mine recently got into the broodmare game and after a bad week last week where they lost a lot of money at the sales they have decided to sell up and get out. This comes down to inexperience and lead to a lot of discussion amongst us all. One of my best friends who on the opposite side of the spectrum had a very successful week when selling at the Goffs sales landing one of his greatest touches said if he was to give up every time he had a bit of bad luck he would have packet up shop a long time ago and then said to me - 'I bet if you were to give up when you lost you wouldn't be trading now'. So with this in mind I carried on and thought to myself you can trade much better than this, you just need to focus and get back to basics. I managed to turn the day around and turn the loss into a small profit by not losing on any more of the remaining races and infact winning on 9 of the 11.

This left me with 10 wins, 5 losses and 4 break even races for the day. Hopefully with a good nights sleep tonight I will be back to business as normal and get through the £700 mark on my balance which I am only a few pence away from.

The few days in Newmarket has made me realise how trading can give you a much better way of life and made me realise that I have not appreciated it as much as I should. I was able to stay away for an extra day at the drop of the hat - I had no one to report to or ask for a day off, I just took it, I also stayed in my bed at 7.30 when everyone else was getting up and heading off to sales and work, I thought to myself, even if I wasn't away I wouldn't be getting up yet and I would only have to work a few hours in the afternoon - there is a lot to be said for being your own boss!!!

Lastly - I shall hopefully get around to doing a write up tomorrow about the previous month and also a few people have been asking me questions about how I trade so I may do a post on this as well.

Hope everyone has had a few successful days - I may do the football tonight after discussing a new strategy with a friend whilst away.
