The 2007 Millennium Bug

Daily result: £19.29 (revised)

I have stolen today's title from the General Betting forum - The introduction of the BF S.P. was a bit of a millennium bug in my mind - things didn't seem to change really - the markets still acted the way they did before in terms of my trading. I had expected from reading what some people were writing that today was going to be mass carnage on a scale not seen before. It didn't happen in my mind! I had a rubbish day but that comes down to 3 factors:

1. Hexam being cancelled - so only 2 meetings to trade, far to long between Leicester and Southwell so my concentration was rubbish and I made mistakes.

2. Betfair S.P. being introduced - I was pre-occupied reading the forum etc and checking the S.P's etc that I wasn't on the ball for the trading and was at the start of the day worried to do much trading in case the carnage that was talked about happened.

3. I made stupid mistakes.

The worst of my errors came when I was holding a lay over the next price ready to release it if it looked like I wasn't going to get the price I wanted. I started to get filled so let go but stupidly still had it on the higher price so turned a profit into a loss. I also slipped to my old trading style and started to do trades where I thought I could nip in and get a tick and was rightly punished.

In the end I traded a total of 12 markets and won on 6, broke even on 2 and lost on 4. I plan to trade both the U.S. and the Kempton meetings tonight so hope to turn a bit more of a profit.

**************
Did the evening racing tonight and had two good races at Kempton which account for much of the profit made. I also had a play with the U.S. racing which did not go anywhere near as good as last night, in fact I think I must have only just broken even on the races. I am spending quite a bit of time at looking at a new area I plan to move into as I have basically decided to give up on the soccer for the mean time as I just don't think I am suited to it. The new idea is based on the in running markets and basically involves using my race reading skills. Hopefully it will work out but I doubt I will do anything of any note with it until the new year as I only have a week until my family start arriving for Christmas and my trading will be near stopping. I am only £102.95 away from hitting the £1,000 balance and making the first withdrawal!!!! I would love to hit this by the end of the weekend - I also need to start thinking of increasing things as I am not going to hit my £50 a day target by Christmas at the moment but I am happy with the amounts I am making at the moment and have had some days over £50 and some not far off when I should only be hitting £25 with the current stakes.

Excellent stuff from you, Leon! I have made a betfair thread few days ago, in which you write link to your blog.
I am just beginner in trading and today was just ordinary day with profit. So i am hoping just like you that the introduction of SP will not ruin profitable metods for us. Also did you noticed increase in liquidity. I traded in just 7 races, all little profit, but did'nt notice fall in liquidity as many predicted.
Today i had oportunity to make big profit, but missed it. On one race in 19:50 (i think) second favorite was in little downtrend. I could back it at 8 (25 min. before the race - the favorite has no money on ) and before the race lay it at 5. That wolud be profit of 57% of stake. I always get mad when i miss that kind of chance. Do you look for downtrend of price and make profits of 10 or more ticks?

Anyway, had read your last month posts. Great for read, i enjoy it.
I am sure you had many readers, bcs. there are not many blogers on horse race trading. Did you maybe was on manofmystery radio?

PS. sorry on my english, i am from Croatia

Chappell Hyam for £3oo at prices down to 3.75 , some guy jumped in
front with £2400 order every time I dropped my price . Then I bought at 3.55 price shot back up to 4.1
I got £265 matched at 3.55 then sold at 4.1.Just luck .I also noticed in an previous race a £92000 sell order 6 ticks out of
